The Other Girl Is Not Like Me

Y'know when you have weeks when there just isn't much to say? Yeah. It's been one of those weeks. Work, being a bit run-down, hangovers and visiting grandparents, it's been a far cry from uneventful but...

Spent a far amount of time in the library this week (the joys of hearing about my academic turmoil, I know) working on my research proposal. We have an odd module assignment which is basically a preparation for our dissertation in which we have to critique the existing literature, to see if there is a niche in the subject to explore. My concept revolves around public protest to varying sizes of planning protest. Anything involving allotment anarchy works for me. Have there been any massive and arguably inappropriate development proposals where you live? If so, I'd love to hear about them.

Glasses - H&M
Watch - car boot sale

I've been testing out a theory from a dear friend of mine who wears glasses when she's got a lot of work on. It seems to get her in the studious frame of mind, and I should say that now she does actually wear glasses for reading, but before she didn't and it still made a different to her attitude to work. For me, these 'geek glasses' are accessories to hide behind. Which is ridiculous really because I draw more attention to my face from people who know I don't wear glasses. But in an environment where you are on your own and surrounded by hard-working tapping of keyboards, it's quite a barrier between me, what I have to do and everyone else adding pressure to the mix.

Aside from the nerdity (yes, nerdity) of my week, I've been battling through freezing gale force winds in Sheffield this week so it's called for lots of layers and jumping back into my hoard of knitwear. I ADORE my second hand jumpers just like this one. Knits really just aren't what they used to be, I'd much rather opt for a vintage granny cardigan than one triple the price from the high street that's most likely poorly made and not fit to warm a teapot.

How do you cope with work stress, do you have any odd quirks we can share and try out? xox

P.S. On the subject on visiting grandparents, they loaded me up today with tins full of cakes and some homemade spicy tomato chutney. I'm just itching to organise a cheese and wine evening now!

  3. I actually do the opposite, because I wear glasses all the time, I used to put contacts in when doing work to help me concentrate more. Love the outfit, vintage knits are definitely way better made than the ones around atm.

  4. nerdity is a word, no doubt about it. our term's just started (as in, on monday, with a week of introductory lectures so... it doesn't count) after a fortnight of exams, so thankfully my workload is nothing in comparison to yours. drink lots of tea, and hopefully that'll help you feel a bit better (: and so much love for your grandparents! they know how to make you feel better xo

  5. nerdity = best. As for tips, I'm all about having a plan. And having a plan for my plan. Although sometimes I spend more time planning and less time doing... eek!

  6. I always make lists. Lots of lists of what I need to achieve. That way I feel like i'm getting somewhere when I tick them off. I often find Uni work feels like it is never ending so this helps me de-stress!
I love that jumper! Its very pretty!

  7. I'm also a list girl - Making lists really helps to ogranise everything on paper when your brain has forgotten how! I make each point as small as possible then it's easier to tick off and sometimes I even write down things that I've already done then I can tick it off straight away! :) Feels goood!
Loving the skirt and watch combo, by the way!

  8. Oh my that vintage jumper is lush! Good luck with all the work, although im sure you will be fabulous seeing as you seem to have put a lot of effort in. I have also been practically living in the library lately. I don't really have any tips but a large bag of fizzy harribo sweets usually gets me through it - only just mind you! xx

When I'm stressed I make a list and tick tasks off as I go along. I know I'm getting things done and then I get less stressed
