"make me sigh with sheer delight"

The last few months have really cemented for me what I think will be my staple style fall-backs, regardless of trends or even time of year. Something I really can't get enough of - and I doubt this love will fade - are oversized, sheer shirts

Black with gold buttons - Primark, cream with scalloped collar - Joy, salmon - New Look

And yes I've got quite a collection. I can't help myself! They're suitable for nights out (black), work (cream) and days out (salmon), and I think most high street shops have their own versions, New Look and Joy have definitely come up trumps for me in particular.

It's also one of those styles which the boyf cocks his head to one side and frowns, wondering why I am so eager to go out looking so exposed. So what if there's a silhouette of a bra underneath, a part of me likes that! If I'm honest I think the sheer shirt can look professional as well as dramatic, and these three beauties will be staples for many seasons to come, I am sure of it.

What do you think to sheer shirts?
And what are your style staples which will never date?

  1. You look gorge Claire, so glad your first day of your placement went well!
I love sheer shirts but shockingly don't own one. I need to sort this out! The Joy shirt is beautiful I love the detailing.
My staple is lace, I have far too many lace items to count. I just think it looks so vintage and feminine. It makes me feel like a girl haha!

  5. That is quite a collection, but if something works for you I believe in investing! Love the scalloped detail on the white blouse, so very pretty :) I bought a sheer blouse recently & wore it for an interview with a top underneath to make it more appropriate/professional! My staple is a stripy t-shirt: I have so many & wear them all the time, they're just easy to chuck on...I'm getting lazy these days!

    p.s there's a clue for you above ;)

  7. Ooh, and I have that black blouse too :)
I like the whole sheer blouse/bra thing - I tend to wear high-waisted pieces underneath so that the belly button isn't on show but other than that, I love it!

  11. I love see-through clothes! I don't wear shirts, but right now I'm looking for one to pair with my new bow tie. My basic items are plain black tops. I wear them way too much. xxx

  15. I love the sheer look too- my boyfriend doesn't get it either, but unless you can literally see every detail of your bra surely it's fine? the one from Joy is really pretty! xx

  16. I think they look really classy when done properly! You look gorgeous and I love your collection. I think my style staple is probably skinny jeans. You won't catch me in baggy ones!

  18. I love them. Because it shows some figure but it is just sheer enough that it's kinda interesting. Also i love the feeling of sheer blouses. I don't like tight things on my body :) You look really cute on that picture. Love the bun!

  20. I have to totally agree with you 100% I can't get enough of them either! I have a fair few which I seem to be over wearing and I still want more! I like the shirt you got from hoy, the scalloped collar and cap sleeves are really pretty :) xxx

  22. Twit twoo Claire - looking lovely! I'm partial to a sheer shirt too, though I always like to wear a nude cami underneath - not brave enough to bare! Sally x

  23. I love soft, loose, drapy shirts. I'd rather mine not be sheer but that is just because I am quite busty enough already! Loose soft shirts are perfect because they look relaxed and smart and they are so much more generous on different body shapes. Mine are forming the backbone of my new work wardrobe. Had my first day today and I am KNACKERED. How is the placement going? x

  25. I have the blue version of the New Look shirt and I wish I'd got it in more colours now. I looove it.
I think my wardrobe staple is, um, black. Black everything. Most of my clothes are black. I'm a secret goth you see...

  26. I loveeeee sheer shirts. I tried on the salmon coloured one from New Look and absolutely loved it, but need to save up some money to get something similar. Sheer shirts are so versatile, the black one you've got on there looks lovely! (I think my boyfriend feels the same way about them as yours does, though)

  27. i honestly wish i had more sheer shirts in my life, they are so easy to style! especially like the primark and new look ones above, plus you look lovely in the top picture! i love the idea of wearing a sheer shirt with just a bra underneath. it's both sexy and demure at the same time, so much more nicer than wearing a ridiculously low cut top! xx

  28. I didn't know it was you with your hair up. I had to go back and look again. Beautiful!
Anyhow, big YES sheer shirts. You can't have to many ;)

  31. Lately sheer shirts are a staple for me too, although if they're too sheer I can't wear just a bra, I have to include a top, not confident enough. I want to splurge on a cream long sleeved from AA but they're so expensive I'm trying to gain some courage to do it! haha

  32. Loveee your sheer shirts! they're so pretty on :)

  34. I love them, too! The salmon one is my favourite of yours - and my favourite of mine is also from New Look. I have, um, four or five at least. And a couple of sheer dresses, too!
