Matalan Style Blogger Challenge

Hello everyone! This is technically a scheduled post since this weekend I am heavily distracted by organising my parents a surprise 50th birthday party (shhh!). They don't read my blog so the secret is safe. I never knew how complicated being at the helm of a surprise 'do could be! It's at a local hall and we've got food, music, fireworks and around 90 friends and family in on it. Yikes I'm nervous. And mad, obviously.

Anyway, this is the outfit post wholly courtesy of Matalan and their Style Blogger Challenge. You might've seen me retweet a few notices about it over the past couple of days, but pitted against Amy, Jade, and Danielle the competition is TOUGH so if I'm in with a chance of winning I could do with your help!

The theme was The Little Black Dress, which, vague enough to take our own spin on it, meant that all four of us went in pretty separate directions (despite choosing the same gorgeous heels as Amy, haha!). I decided that with a challenge like this I'd push my usual style boundaries. Here was my thought process when it came to styling up a theme:

  1. Black and dark colours has become quite a comfort zone for me, so to break out, add a bit of colour and festive feeling I planned my outfit not around the dress but some statement 'rust' colour tights. And as soon as I spotted those gorgeous platform heels I just knew me and them were destined for great things.
  2. Similarly, star print is something I usually avoid like the plague, but the fit of this dress was too perfect - pussybow blouse, long sleeved and short enough to dance in. Perfect for the party season!
  3. Finally, with a finishing touch definitely necessary, I picked a bow for my ponytail, simple and cute enough to feel not too "glam" - I said I was pushing boundaries, but not that much!
So there you have it, that's how I styled up a classic theme of LBD with a bit of a playful twist. If you haven't already and have five minutes to spare I'd love it if you could vote for me! All you have to do is leave a comment here, it really would make my day :)

Photos to come of my parents' party, which is happening as we speak! aaaagh! xox

(A big thankyou to Laura and the whole Matalan team for asking me to be a part of this challenge, it's been a lot of fun and great to see the other girlies' interpretations on a style theme!)

  26. I love the tights! I eyed up those shoes in the shop but decided they would be hell for me to walk in. They look absolutely gorgeous though.

In theory, I really hate star prints like that. In practice, on you, it actually looks really cute and fun, and works so well with that outfit.

    You're getting my vote! :)
