I'm not just another chick

I was going through my wardrobe this morning and realised I haven't worn either this skirt or this blouse for months, and when they're put together it ends up being quite a girly step away from how I have become used to dressing up! I had, for years, an indignant sort of mental block towards being "girly". I went to Maggie Thatcher's old girls' school and we all had it drilled into us that we could do anything that our counterpart male could. And more. And maybe I mistook that, leading me to refute anything vaguely girlish? I've never been high-maintenance, I never allow myself to follow boys around like a sheep, and generally, I wear too much black and jeans too often for me to ever have believed I could be even slightly "girly."

But when Bethanie from the Modern Girl's Guide to Fabulousness contacted me asking if I'd like to become a part of her writing team, along with 14 other 'Fabulette' bloggers and business women, my first reaction was, "why me??" I don't even wear pi--

Oh wait. Yes I do.

Pink Skirt - Topshop
Polkadot Blouse - Dorothy Perkins
Ribbon - Sheffield markets

And it got me to thinking. Perhaps my perception of being girly was incredibly short-sighted? I might not be your conventional girly girl (I still slob about in converses and drink pints, thankyou very much), but if nothing else I am an - albeit scruffy - example of how every girl has a bit of "girl" still left in them. Whether it's an addiction to glittery nail varnish (check), penchant for leg-lengthening killer heels (check) or even just my attitude towards putting my best-looking foot forward to give that important diamond first impression, it all harks back to my inner girlishness.

And I've decided to embrace it much more.

I guess I'm the opposite to you, I'm super girly in the way I dress and never wear trousers. Just wouldn't have a clue how to go for a more masculine look. You can rock both looks xx

  6. If you had paired this with really neat hair, it would look twee and kind of boring.
Teamed with your beautifully scruffy hair (and I say that with much jealousy- mine is flat as a pancake) and the boyish neck tie, it looks awesome.

  25. I know what you mean - for the longest time I avoided wearing pink because I felt that it somehow marked me out as a bit frivolous and not to be taken seriously. But it is a fun colour to wear, and can actually look pretty bad ass! I wonder if there's an alternate universe out there where Maggie wears pink...

  26. I don't wear much pink either, but this really works for you.

A high waist almost makes anything look great :)
