Tape ain't gonna fix it honey

It's a love/hate trend (but less smelly than marmite). Pastels are set to be everywhere for Spring, you only have to pick up a copy of March's Company magazine to see a huuuuuge spread of candy lovelies on offer. Opinion is divided on them though, but strangely for me and my nervous looking wardrobe currently full of maroon, leather and black black black, I'm thinking things need a bit lightening up...

I can't even explain what's drawing me to this entirely different colour palette - maybe my subconscious is just desperate for Spring and sunshine? All the same, I've found myself perusing eBay for pastel blazers and candy coloured skinnies. I won this Topshop jersey number in auction last week, and it has been hung up for the past six days almost staring at me, challenging me to brave the baby blue. A piece of clothing will never beat me, after all.

Jersey Blazer - Topshop via eBay
Black & White Polkadot Blouse - Select
Skinny black jeans - Primark
Leather loafers - New Look

I love the spreads where candy is worn all at once, think the current Sorbet Style Challenge as set by Matalan (go vote!), but I'm not quite brave enough for the ENTIRE shebang just yet. For now, one piece at a time will do.

This blazer is a couple of sizes up what I usually am, so with the relaxed jersey material it ends up looking quite 80s I think; laid-back and unstructured. I had a nerve-wracking presentation at Uni today which I've been prepping for all week (hence the relative quiet), and when I saw the boys the week before dressed in shirts and suits, I thought "hell yeah, Imma get me some of that smart stuff". Granted it's not quite office-worthy, but compared to my usual scruffy look, it's a step in the right direction.

What d'you reckon guys? Pastels - yay or nay? If you're erring on the side of not, I implore you to try a teeny tiny bit, just for a day, to see what you think. xox

And the presentation went alright, if you had wondered! Not that I'm putting that down to my wardrobe, just my huge brain.

  5. I WANT to love pastels but I'm not sure how sensible they are, especially when I'm so clumsy and will spill everything on such light pretty colours!

Maroon is the future, especially with mustard yellow.

  18. I LOVE pastels! I think I'm lucky in that you get away with them a bit easier if you're very fair in colouring, but they're just so pretty and feminine, I'm so happy that they're sticking around for a bit!

I do love that blazer on you though, and think it's fab how you've giving the pastel a bit of an edge with the rest of your outfit.

  21. I'm so happy aboutt this trend, I think it'll be super wearable once we get our heads around it. I agree the whole pastle colour block outfit may take some getting used to, i've just ordered these little lovelies from Chines Laundry @ New Look - http://www.newlook.com/shop/womens/shoes/chinese-laundry-colour-block-platforms_247308714, the tiniest slice of pastel ever? x

  23. I love pastels! I will be fully embracing it. Slowly with a touch of pastel and mostly black, then hopefully I will eventually be able to wear a majority pastel outfit (I think some sort of pastel pattern would have to be involved). Looking at pastel outfit pics/colours makes me crave sweets though! lol x x

  25. Pastels are my favourite spring trend, and I never thought I'd be saying that! Suddenly all the really geriatric clothes in charity shops are cool again, such is a strange cycle of fashion. I love your pastel blazer - great find! x

  26. I love how you've worked pastel into this outfit, I'm not really big on pastels but this is a very subtle take.
    Love it :)

  32. Generally I'm a nay. Only because my colouring suits bolder colours. But on others, I do like a bit of pastel. For instance, you look rad in the baby blue
