Meadowhall Blogger Style School

Yesterday I was one of 6 bloggers asked by the fabulous Bethanie Lunn to accompany her on a whistle stop tour of some of Meadowhall's top beauty & cosmetics counters. It was whole day of tutorials, pampering, goodie-bags, and pep talks about the best way to apply eyeliner, Spring make-up trends, and a great chance to have a girly gossip about all things beauty-related. Which, as primarily a fashion and style blogger, doesn't really get to happen very often!

I want you now, readers, this post is picture heavy! I've tried to condense them as much as possible so if you do want a close up, just click the images to enlarge.

My bloggy comrades: from left - Charlotte, Hayley, Nicky, Bethanie, myself, Rose & Katie

We met promptly at 9am for a coffee (much needed, as you can imagine at that hour!) and our briefing of what our day would consist of. It was lovely to be introduced to some other Northern bloggers, have a bit of a chat and put faces to twitter names!

First stop was Boots, where we were greeted by Caroline at the No7 counter and a bag of goodies! The day was shaping up to be rather fun already, and we had barely started.

(Look how closely Hayley, Rose and Katie are concentrating, teehee!) After hearing about the brand which is uber well known in the UK, even if, like me, it's not your go-to make-up brand. Caroline pictured above explained No7 products are suitable for all skin types of all ages, despite the reputation they seem to have that they're for older ladies. I could agree with that - it's a brand my Mum turns to so it has never stood out from the shelves for me. However. After seeing Nicky looking gorgeously fresh-faced and on trend with her smokey eyes, and going home to try the No7 Poppy King Lip Crayon in Singing which everyone seems to love too, I think I'm hooked!

Next up was the Illamasqua range at Debenhams. I had heard a lot about this covetable brand on twitter and other blogs before, but had never actually seen the range in person before, so it was great to get a close-up. The "look" of the brand cannot be further away from No7, and came across as being creative, experimental and unafraid to stand out. Though the lovely lady on the counter looked ace in her blue lippie, I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to pull off the whole look all at once!

Rose had her eyes done in a dramatic, smokey style which she loved. Her blue eyes really popped out even more than usual afterwards, and as she did one of the eyes and the make-up artist did the other as an example - she looked great and very symmetrical ;)

Last but by no means least, a trip to bellapierre cosmetics in House of Fraser. I audibly gasped when I saw the glitter palettes in the below right photo (I know, rainbow spectacular right?), so as an avid fan of other brands which has a USP of bright, vibrant colours like Barry M and Models Own, I knew this would be right up my street.

What I was not prepared for was the lengths to which bellapierre make-up is good for your skin. I am incredibly spot-prone and therefore avoid foundation like the plague. The most I'll stretch to usually is a BB cream with a mineral powder to set, so being completely made up by the lovely bellapierre team with their mineral foundation ranges was a bit of a shock to the system for me. I was pleasantly surprised however, as their range is light, actually good for your skin, and reduced most of my skin's imperfections! Definitely a plus for me with patchy colouring.

The last part of the day is pretty much summed up in this photo...

That's right. A make-up challenge. Which terrifies a relative novice like me. In 10 minutes, we were given the challenge of recreating a bellapierre look using an eyeliner brush and a few of their products. We were all feeling a little flustered and shakey-handed under pressure, eek! But the winner of the challenge was crowned, and rightly so, congratulations to Charlotte!

So that's it! A round up of the day. Are you exhausted? I was, and I am now after going through all of my photos to try and pick the best! Phew! All that is left for me to say is another big thankyou to Bethanie and the Meadowhall team for putting on such a great event. It really did allow us to walk away a little smarter about what we put on in the morning, and to definitely make better choices with our cosmetics purchases too.

I have another exciting post lined up in conjunction with this event too which will be going live in the week (hint giveaway hint), so keep your eyes peeled! If you have any questions about any of the brands, products, or about Meadowhall in general just drop me a comment below! xox

  1. This looks so fun! I'd love to have an opportunity like this. Though I think I'd be a bit of a fail on the make-up challenge.. I'm not too adventurous when it comes to that sort of thing!
