Dunford Wood at #LFWend

Dunford Wood at #LFWend

Who says outfit posts can't be smiley? And who says girls can't wear bow ties? Not for the reserve of Cher Lloyd, which I was routinely teased about at uni, it seems. With the likes of Sophia Marinho de Lemos and Lucie Hugary inspiring me to ditch heels and go for something altogether more manly, a new brand I've been working with in my day job seems like the perfect place to begin experimenting.

Introducing, bow tie brand of the moment - Dunford Wood.

I've been reading lots of empowering comment lately, think Sarcastathon 3000 and Sarah Woolley's pieces on the Huffington and anything by Hadley Freeman and it's made me want to reassess everything I thought about being a girl. I've grown tough skin over the past couple of years, I'll happily shout in the face of a bullish boy in a nightclub, but I still shiver with wariness when I get followed out running by a guy much bigger than me in the dark on my own.

I've even wondered if writing about what I wear is inherently gender-typical (read: bad and wrong), but I've come to the conclusion that inadvertently falling into the mould of stereotype doesn't mean you are one. It's shit that the stereotype even exists in there first place. It's the same ethos here - what you wear shouldn't define you - you should define what you wear. So it might not be the "norm" for a girl to wear a traditionally male accessory, but trousers and brogues and pixie crops had to start somewhere, right?

Bit philosophical for a Monday. Soz.

That aside, I have blogged about my love for bow ties before, but nothing like these hand painted silk numbers! I would be biased as I'm working on their PR, my desk covered in beautiful samples, but they had such a great reaction at London Fashion Weekend too, despite the rain! I was even street style snapped by the menswear god that is Jonathan Daniel Pryce!

Big kisses to my girl Rebecca for snapping these, and having just got back from a fab weekend with her, Gemma, Maria, Emma and Sarah, I'm really feeling the love with you guys. Blogging has brought many perks, but none more so than meeting so incredible new mates.

  5. Smiles for all the lads, right? I mean, just look at Saint Laurent, if that's not inspired by menswear I don't know what is, and I think it's pretty damn sexy. Loving those bow-ties too, although they're even more beautiful in person. So lovely to see you (all) this weekend - hopefully we'll see each other again soon :) xx

  9. i love wearing bow ties!

i think any outfit, no matter how outlandish, or drab or 'normal', is about confidence. sometimes it's lack of confidence, and sometimes you are so confident in who you are and what you wear, that the clothes almost don't matter.

i don't care if clothes i wear are 'girly' or 'boyish' or what others may or may not choose to stereotype me as. if i love it then that's all that matters to me :)
