Meet our girls

There have been two furry additions to the household... Introducing Helmet and Flash. They're not the prettiest of names, but our girls more than compensate for unfortunate titles.

Stuck in an apartment sans green space, and a boyfriend who hates cats (and, to be honest, I'm just trying to fill a dog-shaped hole with that attempt) we were really limited by choice of pet. I've done fish (too smelly), and I'm not interested in hamsters (too sleepy), but after a trip to a farm and a cuddle with this little guy, we were sold.

And here they are! They're super inquisitive and very brave for such tiny creatures. We've been getting them used to our smells and voices, encouraging them out of their cage with peanut butter.

It was a bit of a heartbreak story to begin with. We came home SO excited with these two boys, only for us have to return them within a fortnight because they are fighting. Hearing their little squeals was more than I could take, and after a chat with the shop we decided to take them back to exchange them. It just goes to show, getting a pet can be a complete lucky dip, especially when you're getting two boys which are genetically bound to be more territorial.

Our girls are settling in well and I'm sure they'll pop up often on Instagram in future. If you've kept mice before, stay in touch! Our circle seems to be pretty small - only one pet shop in town caters for them, we need to stick together!

  1. So so cute! I also have a huge dog-shaped hole in my life. Some people on the first floor have got two dogs and I'm sooo jealous but I wouldn't feel right bringing one into our own tiny apartment without a garden. I thought of hamsters too but the way they just try and escape all the time is awful - I've had many a battle with a rogue hamster before! I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on with them, maybe mice is the way to go for me too! xxx

  2. Aww, they are so cute!
I'm a dog lover, I'd be surrounded by them if I could.

  5. Aww they are both super sweet! I would love to have a dog/cat but I've not enough time to commit (stealing my parents two retrievers for cuddles suffices...for now!) so I have always have hamsters. Seems so quiet when they are not around - surprising how attached you become to them :)

  6. So sweet, love their huge ears! Hope you have a lot more luck with these girls :-) xx

  7. They do look very cute, I would be scared of squashing them though :(
